The Indian government’s gold folly

India has a history of gold ownership, spurred by long-term experience of a weak rupee. Only a fool leaves rupees on deposit, because they usually buy less and less every year. Alternative stores of value, such as equities, have only entered the mainstream on the back of the economic boom, and their performance on the whole has been nowhere as good or certain as gold.

 Since independence gold has been the best store of family wealth by far. Today’s grandparents were buying it at 170 rupees to the ounce in 1965, and since then there have been festivals, children born, children married and grandchildren as well. The responsible family patriarch has saved for his family’s wellbeing and future, and gold has been central to his savings. And what a wise man he has been: gold today is about 75,000 rupees an ounce, having gone up 440 times in his lifetime measured in rupees.
He knows something Westerners do not: the rise in the gold price is due to the currency going down. And so long as the currency goes down, it makes sense to continue to accumulate gold to ensure family savings retain their value. Nothing else gives this protection, and the price paid today or tomorrow is a secondary consideration.
Governments don’t like this mainly for ideological reasons. They don’t like the idea of some people getting rich from doing nothing. Furthermore, they are in the business of transferring wealth from savers and workers to pay for political objectives and also to assist their favoured pressure groups. As well as getting its income legally through taxation, governments print money. Printing money devalues the purchasing power of people’s earnings and savings without them realising what is happening. The benefit of gold ownership is that it protects people from this hidden tax of monetary inflation, which leads over time to a lower and lower currency. And the lower the rupee goes, the greater the reasons to buy more gold.

The biggest economic problem at the moment is less than the recession that the misunderstanding between the political rhetoric and the real economy. To understand nature, we will refer to a play: Chantecler , written by Jean Rostand and performed in Paris in 1908.

People poisoned by so many speeches, end up believing and expecting that local and international politicians it produces the expected growth. Unfortunately, the growth does not obey the government orders! Economic history teaches us that governments and international institutions have a high capacity to destroy the economy but very little to build. Destruction? It's easy: making of monetary inflation, widening fiscal deficits, fund unnecessary infrastructure, harm merchants, national and international trade, announce absurd forecasts gel the labor market, capital expenditure plan to fashion such are poisoned arrows that appear in the political quiver.

Governments are also required (contrary to what some liberal fundamentalists say too) to manage the painful social consequences of change, what Joseph Schumpeter called creative destruction. Good economic governance, in short, should consider how not to prevent contractors to undertake and how to acceptable Creative Destruction for society? Everything else is either harmful or falls syndrome Chantecler.

Je vise la destitution de François Hollande

Xavier Kemlin, celui qui a porté plainte contre Valérie Trierweiler pour détournement de fonds publics. Il nous en a dit plus sur ses projets et les buts qu'il vise. 


Et tant pis si la première plainte a été classée sans suite par le Parquet de Paris, où Bruno Nataf, vice-procureur, a argué que "les faits dénoncés ne constituent pas une infraction pénale" : Xavier Kemlin ne compte pas en rester là comme il nous l'a expliqué et, comme le permet l'article 85 du code de procédure pénale, c'est auprès du doyen des juges d'instruction du TGI de Paris qu'il a porté plainte vendredi(PDF de la plainte). Toujours pour les mêmes raisons, à savoir que les fonds publics "ne peuvent servir à loger, nourrir, blanchir, vêtir, payer les voyages ainsi que le personnel d'une dame avec qui la nation n'a aucun lien juridique" :

Mais pourquoi lui ? "Né avec une cuillère en argent dans la bouche" selon ses propres dires, il estime que les plus fortunés ont de plus hautes responsabilités et ne peuvent pas rester silencieux face à la rapide dérive française. Et de condamner les détournements de fonds publics, le cumul des mandats et ces politiques qui ne font ce métier que pour en tirer profit, avec l'espoir en filigrane d'un homme providentiel qui vienne nettoyer les écuries d'Augias. Mais, aussi honnêtes soient les hommes politiques, peuvent-ils ne pas succomber à ces travers ?
Sans trop d'illusions sur ce sur quoi sa plainte peut déboucher au plan purement juridique, Xavier Kemlin entend surtout mobiliser le plus de Français possible pour soutenir sa démarche, via la création d'une association qui se constituera partie civile avec lui, et qu'il espère voir rejointe par "plusieurs centaines de milliers de Français" voire plus encore, en contactant directement son avocat à andre-buffard@wanadoo.fr.
En ligne de mire, la dénonciation de ces politiques "tous pourris", qui se servent de l'argent public pour leur intérêt propre. Et, ambitieux, il ne vise pas moins que "la destitution de François Hollande" puisque, sur l'absence de déclaration de patrimoine commun avec Valérie Trierweiler ou sur le financement public des activités de Valérie Trierweiler, le président a fraudé dans au moins un des deux cas.

Sans tourner autour du pot, Xavier Kemlin n'hésite pas un instant quand on lui demande son avis sur les tentatives de contre-feux de l’Élysée sur l'ISF de François Hollande :
"Valérie Trierweiler n'aurait pas un patrimoine suffisant pour que, avec François Hollande, ils doivent payer l'ISF (NDLR : seuil de 1,3 million €) ? Ça me fait bien rigoler. Je rachète n'importe quand à M. Hollande sa villa avec piscine de Mougins à deux fois l'estimation qu'il donne officiellement !".
Des accusations de sous-estimation flagrante de patrimoine que le Canard Enchaîné faisait aussi, déjà en 2007 !
Le pourfendeur d'un capitalisme dévoyé
Et le mur des cons du Syndicat de la Magistrature, sur lequel les syndicalistes de ce syndicat très à gauche épinglaient les visages de leurs ennemis ou cibles ? Son existence ne surprend guère cet habitué des prétoires, pour qui il ne fait aucun doute que la justice n'est plus rendue de manière objective en France. Que ce soit pour avantager les politiques ou les gros actionnaires dans les affaires où il s'estimait floué comme celle du rachat d'Hyparlo.
Car si Xavier Kemlin a une bête noire en la personne de François Hollande, il met dans le même sac les hommes politiques des trente dernières années. Nicolas Sarkozy inclus, pour lequel il se flatte de n'avoir pas voté. La France ne serait plus guère qu'une "république bananière". Plus largement, c'est aussi aux dirigeants d'entreprise qui ont dévoyé le système capitaliste qu'il s'en prend - dans différents procès contre la Société Générale, Carrefour ou d'autres. Des grandes sociétés ou le capitalisme managérial a remplacé l'entrepreneuriat d'hier et où les cooptations dans les conseils d'administration sont faites pour caser les amis plus que dans l'intérêt de l'entreprise. Une pratique largement héritée du secteur public en France, où la consanguinité avec l'administration continue à faire des dégâts réguliers.
Et le business angel qu'il est de souligner par ailleurs les dégâts massifs que la fiscalité cause à la France : en surtaxant les plus-values, la France décourage la création d'entreprise et le capital risque, en taxant le capital avec l'ISF, "un impôt au rendement négatif", la France fait fuir les dizaines de milliards de capitaux dont elle aurait besoin pour se redresser.

Mise à jour 18h20 :
Alors que Xavier Kemlin devait être l'invité du Grand Journal ce soir 29 avril, Canal + a annulé au dernier moment, indiquant qu'il n'y avait "plus assez de place dans [leur] conducteur". Thomas Lacroix du groupe Canal + a ajouté : " Loin de nous l'idée de vous boycotter, bien au contraire, je me permets de garder contact avec vous pour vous recevoir très prochainement." De son côté M. Kemlin estime quant à lui que cette annulation est le résultat de pressions venues de l'Elysée.
En outre, M. Kemlin nous a indiqué qu'une vidéo postée par lui sur Youtube au sujet de sa plainte, et visionnée plus de 450.000 fois, vient d'être retirée.
